Paypal Setup for eShop

Paypal Website Standards is the entry level merchant account which Paypal offers. This is a gateway that will allow your customers to pay via Visa, Mastercard or Paypal.

It is useful and limited as a gateway for your eShop. It is a good place to start and once your needs dictate it you can look at a full merchant account and gateway.

Paypal is limited in that it does not go full circle, the payment ends at Paypal, so the good news is you receive the funds, but the bad news is that the orders get classified as abandonded in your Order Management panel. So it is workable but not ideal.

2 KEY THINGS TO SETUP
1. First you need to sign up for a Paypal Merchant Account. This will have you elect an email address as a username. To setup your eShop to 'talk' to Paypal you just need this email address.
> Go to Cart Settings > Payment Methods > Select Paypal.com as the gateway
You can edit the info the customer sees before and after the transaction in the HTML/Rich Text editor at the bottom of the page.

2. The RETURN URL needs to be specified in the Paypal Login Panel. So when the customer clicks Return to Website it will go to your website!
> Go to Paypal.com.au and login > Profile > Under Selling Preferences > Website Payment Preferences > Auto Return ON > YOu do not need to specify a return URL as eShop will pass the relevant info over to Paypal.

To create a Thank You page.
Inside eShop Admin > Cart Settings > Payment Methods > Paypal.com

Write a Payment Thank You message as per Paypal instructions.

  • In accordance with the User Agreement, you must provide written information on the page displayed by the Return URL that will help the buyer understand that the payment has been made and that the transaction has been completed.
  • You must provide written information on the page displayed by the Return URL that explains that payment transaction details will be emailed to the buyer.
  • Example: Thank you for your payment. Your transaction has been completed, and a receipt for your purchase has been emailed to you. You may log into your account at www.paypal.com/au to view details of this transaction.

Please submit a ticket if you have any trouble with this.
