Browser Security Update

We need to give you an important update regarding the security of your website. So please take the time to read the following information.

Online security is an ongoing and developing issue for websites. One of the systems that has been created to strengthen online website security is what is called an SSL Certificate.

An SSL is a method of encrypting data between the website visitor’s browser and the website’s server. An SSL provides an authentication of your website and provides protection from the stealing of private and sensitive information from your website including passwords and credit card details.

Recently Google began rolling out an update to Chrome whereby when a visitor interacts with ANY website that doesn’t have an SSL, a “Not Secure” message will appear in the top left of the browser. And this applies to ALL websites.

The first phase of the Chrome update has now been rolled out, and if you still do not have an SSL, this means that in the Chrome browser your website is currently not showing as “Secure” and instead it is displaying an “Alert”. And when visitors interact with your website the alert changes to “Not Secure”.

Below is how your website address will display in relation to having an SSL certificate, not having an SSL now, and not having an SSL after the Chrome update.

Here is how your website will display when you have an SSL certificate:

If your website is not secure it exposes you to information and data theft, and with this Chrome update if your website is labeled “Not Secure”, visitors to your website will be reluctant to remain on your website and interact with it. As an additional benefit, having an SSL will also have a positive impact for how your website ranks in search engines.

An SSL certificate means your website is using the HTTPS protocol. See Google article here explaining the update.

We want to let you know of this important development and also provide you with a simple and cost effective way to get an SSL for your website.

You can order an SSL through us and we will install it onto your website.

If you have any questions regarding this please email us or call and we will be happy to help.
